Re Educate Myself About Weightloss

Okay, so now I am really mad with myself.
Finally the festive stuff has come and gone and I have worked up the courage to step back onto the scales and.......
ooohhh s#@t, I've put on 5 kilos.

Where the hell did that come from?

I knew it. When you start feeling bloated and the button hole on your favourite pair of jeans seems so much further away from the button, you know.

Now, what to do?

Go back to the start of this blog and re-read what I wrote about how I lost 14kg. Yep, that's what I'll do. Try and get my mind back into weightloss mode and start thinking thin, thin, thin.

Off to do some reading.

Diet No More

Ok, so it's that time of year again, making these stupid resolutions and promises that you really know that you won't keep. Mine is Diet No More.

Oh yer, HAPPY NEW YEAR, hope everyone behaved themselves, not.

Now, where was I, back to whinging about new year resolutions.
Every year we tell ourselves that this is the year,
I'm going to lose 10kg, I'm going to stop smoking, Give up drinking, Save more money, Get organised, Work less and so it goes.

Not this year, I have decided to diet no more. That's it. I have made the decision that I am not going to try and lose weight, I am just going to eat more healthier and walk more, not exercise, just walk further when shopping and a bit at night after dinner.

So that's it, nothing to difficult, just light exercise and sensible eating. So if I lose some weight in the meantime, that would be a bonus, I'm not going to say it (lose weight)because it will be a promise and I will no doubt break it.

So bring on the new year I say.

Ever Tried Detox To Kick Start A Diet?

Detox, "What's that?" I hear you say.

Detox is when you try and rid your body of any unwanted toxins. Eating only fresh vegetables and cutting back on carbs.

  • Caffeine
  • Alcohol
  • Processed foods
  • Salty foods
  • Bad carbs, sugar

I have completed this task twice and I can truly say it was the most difficult of tasks I have ever tried when it comes to dieting.

Trying to eat soup for 5 days along with a few extras is boring and not very satisfying, but I must say that I really felt great after the week was up. I wasn't bloated and my skin seemed better. (Probably all the water you drink)

The first couple of days are the hardest. Headaches began at lunchtime on the first day and by nightfall, nausea set in, dry reaching, ohh not so good. Lasted two days but stuck by it although I felt like I was dying.
All this is the start of ridding yourself of those bad toxins, caffeine is the worst for me, not that I drink a lot of coffee, a latte probably once or twice a week. As soon as I cut caffeine out of my diet the headache appears and usually ends up being a migraine, not nice. (I do drink green tea regularly)

If you can get through the first few days you will not regret it. It will kick start your weight loss and you will feel lighter and healthier.

Try this soup for your detox diet: (Losing The Last 5kg, Susie Burrell)

    Vegetable Soup

    2 teaspoons olive oil
    1 onion, diced
    5 sticks celery, chopped
    500ml salt-reduced vegetable stock
    750ml water
    400g tin tomatoes, chopped
    carrot, cubed
    500g pumpkin, cubed
    200g sweet potato, cubed
300g broccoli, cut into florets, steam. Save till serving
    1 leek, finely sliced (optional)
    Cumin to taste

1 Heat oil in large saucepan. Add onion, leek, celery and cumin, saute over low heat until soft.

2 Add all other ingredients, minus broccoli, bring to the boil then simmer for about 10 minutes.

3 Serve with steamed broccoli on top

Make a double batch and freeze in small portion sizes for quick, easy meals. Only do this for 5 days, no longer.

Lose Weight by Taking Baby Steps

Weight Loss- what a dirty word.
I was reading a Weight Watchers magazine yesterday and came across this article about losing weight.
The tip was to take a step at a time.
Most people have to lose weight and a lot of it. 20 or 30kg, that's a huge amount when you look at it in the big picture. But look smaller, divide it up into smaller steps.

They suggested that if you had to lose 5kg then work at losing 1/2 a kilo a week. If 10 to 15kg, look at losing 5 kilos in 5 weeks. Lose the weight in small stages and it won't seem so daunting. Break up the amount of weight you want to lose and start from there.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Portion Size And Will Power The Key To Weightloss

Tell me you haven't ever thought about your weight. I'm sure ever new years eve we all make resolutions about losing weight or keeping fit and healthy and some of us only last a week and then back to old habits.
I'm going to tell you how I lost 13 kilos in four months.
    1. I STARTED WITH A FOOD DIARY: I wrote down everything I ate and drank for a week, from those lattes, to biscuits with a cuppa, chocolate bars that you bought at the cash register for the trip home. Everything that passed through my lips.
    2. I ANALYSED THE DIARY: I looked at things that I did not need, I could not believe that I actually ate that much food in a week. There was so much that could be deducted from my diet. I was eating because I was bored most of the time and picking.
    3. WORKED OUT WHAT SHOULD GO: I deducted potato, cheese and sugar from my diet. Anything that had sugar, cakes, biscuits, chips.lollies and chocolates. Cereals that contained alot of sugar and white bread. I actually cut out all bread for the first month then gradually brought it back eating wholemeal or grain, checking out sugar content first. Caffeine was another item that needed to go. Not that I drank alot of coffee but I read that it helped give cravings.
    4. SIX SMALL MEALS A DAY: Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper. This is how I tried to discipline what I ate, sticking to these meal times.
    5. MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT I DID: Reduce my portion sizes. I choose the smallest dinner plate I had and used it for all my main meals. Because it was smaller it looked full and gave me a sense of feeling satisfied. NOT FULL.
    6. WEIGHING MYSELF: Now I know they say not to weigh yourself every day, but I found this to help keep me on track. I noticed a pattern and what to expect during different times of the month. For me this worked.
    7. DRINKING WATER: I never have liked drinking water but I made myself drink 6-8 glasses of it every day. Sometimes I would use diet cordial to give it a bit of flavour.
    8. VITAMIN REPLACEMENT: I take multi vitamin tablets religiously now. I feel good and have had no illnesses in the last six months.
    9. WILL POWER,  WILL POWER, WILL POWER: Psych yourself up, get a picture of you at your worst and place it on the fridge. Have a picture of a really nice dress that you would like in a smaller size, put it next to the other picture. When you go to the fridge this will encourage you to succeed.
This is only some ideas that helped me to get the weight off. I'm still slowly losing it and feel that writing this will encourage me to keep going. I hope to lose another 6 - 10 kilos and then I will be happy with myself.
Don't get me wrong, it was not easy. I still have bad days where I broke my diet but I get straight back into it the next day.
Exercise doesn't come easy to me, gyms are out and so is running. Walking is the only exercise that I do and I don't do it every day, when I'm feeling up to it.
Hope I gave you some great ideas and an incentive to succeed at losing weight.
